I've had this journal what, eight years, and I'm finally getting around to making one of these? Oh well, better late than never.

First thing's first - if you're just looking for my fanfiction, there's a list of more-or-less organised links here. Some pieces are friends-locked, so if you don't have a LiveJournal account then you won't be able to access everything. Sorry about that.

Anyway, if you're here for more general reasons, then pretty much everything you'd need to know about me - at first glance, anyway - is located on my user info page. This LJ isn't completely Friends Only; I do make public posts, as you'll see if you scroll down a bit. But I tend to lock a fair number of entries, especially when they concern non-trivial subjects (i.e. my real life). Er, but I'm always open to meeting new people?

Aaand...I think that's about all I needed to say here.

This LJ is pretty much just a depository for my fics now, isn't it.

Summary: Ryou falls sick, and no matter how disagreeable that makes him, Kaoru wants to be helpful. 1,750 words.

More pointless fluff, to fill another Tumblr request!Collapse )

New fic alert! This is something I've been working on for a while, and hopefully it's going to be a long project (10+ chapters). It's a retelling of G.U.'s story, in an AU where The World is reality. Which means it'll be darker, things will get done via magic rather than technology, locations and mythology will be fleshed out (I have big plans for Indieglut Lugh), and...hopefully it'll be pretty interesting? And I'm splitting the scenes three ways, between the viewpoints of Haseo, Endrance and Atoli.

Prologue has just been posted here.

So uh, I seem to be on Tumblr a lot more than LJ these days! It's not that I'm abandoning this place - I still check my flist daily, and I'll still be posting fics here. But for a while now, LJ has felt lonely for me. Only a handful of people on my flist actually make posts, since the rest have left. Tumblr might not be the greatest place for chatting, but there's a regular stream of easy-to-find posts for even the smallest fandoms, and it feels a lot more lively.

Speaking of small fandoms, I'm currently playing through the Golden Sun games. And they are fun but I am constantly getting lost and having no clue what to do next. Especially now I have Piers' ship and am spoiled for choice (though honestly the random battles are partly to blame, because even after casting Avoid I'm getting so many that it's a discouragement to exploration). And I find the pairing names people use hilarious. Mudshipping? Swampshipping? WAY TO MAKE THEM SOUND APPEALING GUYS
...Seriously though I love crazy things like that. And witherlessroses wants me to get on board with swampshipping, so I am looking out for reasons to. Because Felix is a cool guy, albeit a quiet one. And Piers is a cool guy too. I like his headscarf/veil/towel thing. I don't like his muscular arms though. /excellent insightful comments

I still haven't completed Skyward Sword ^^;;

Firstly, whoever invented the Silent Realms in Skyward Sword is a terrible terrible person. Give me ReDeads over those guardians any day.

Secondly, new fic! You can read it here on LiveJournal, or over on fanfiction.net if you prefer.

Thirdly, my choice of current music does not in any way indicate that I hate .hack//Link any less. Just like my choice of current icon.

The fangirling for it begins here. I had a heap of trouble getting to play the actual game, since on Friday I missed the delivery (I was doing work experience back at the animal shelter I used to volunteer at - it's mostly the same, just with some different, less organised people). And on Saturday it turned out the Wii I'd bought was faulty, so I had to get a replacement from the store. But on Sunday I finally got to play!

...And the very first task you have to do is find a cat named Mia. I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING.

But yeah, uh. I'm currently up to the Faron Woods, and while I'm enjoying the game so far, I do have one complaint. Yes, it's the Wiimote.

Skyward Sword is certainly playable, and sometimes it's actually fun to use the Wiimote (I was giggling like a maniac when I first practiced the different sword swings). But there are times when it's doing exactly the opposite of what it's meant to, dragging me completely out of the game because I'm struggling so badly to work the controls. Flying through the Wing Ceremony, for example, was absolutely awful and took me over ten minutes of frantically waving the controller in random directions, trying to figure out how the hell to stop my Loftwing sinking and getting stuck in the clouds (no, the tutorial was no help). It took me several minutes to lift the Goddess Sword, because I couldn't get the motion right. Crossing narrow ropes takes forever, because I can't balance for more than a couple of steps before falling down. Hopefully problems like this won't crop up so much as I get more used to a motion-sensing controller D:

Apart from that everything's cool though.

So college is great in some ways and massively stressful in others, and uh, eating up a lot more of my time than I thought it would. Which hasn't left me with much energy to work on fics lately, which I feel bad about since I asked a couple of people to beta my post-Veritas stuff and haven't sent them anything yet, because I haven't been able to finish anything yet. Maybe I'll be able to get some stuff done over Christmas break.

A couple of weeks ago I had a half term break, which I used to hop over to America and visit witherlessroses. Which was awesome and we had heaps of fun and I miss her so much now aaaa ;~; (and we only spent like half an hour playing .hack//G.U. together, isn't that impressive). And I could make a huge post talking about all our dorky adventures but this isn't that type of blog and I like to keep secrets.

Umm what else? I am all kinds of excited about the new Legend of Zelda game; I've pre-ordered the limited edition version with that silly gold controller. Even though I still think the Wii is kind of a lame console with not many games to recommend it besides Zelda.

And its name is No. 6. Considering that I only started watching because Sion looks like Haseo, it's turned out to be a really good find!

So, possibly-exciting stuff is happening. Possibly. On Monday I'm going to try and enrol in a course for a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care. I'm not 100% certain if I'll be accepted, since there's a whole mess of admin that needs to be sorted out (e.g. the minimum requirement is two GCSEs, which I have, but I was never given certificates to prove it so I'm chasing those down). But I'm hoping it works out. I think what I'm most worried about is being accepted, and not getting along with the other students. I'd feel pretty out of place if they were all 16-18 year olds, while I'm in my twenties. And I'm worried about being properly prepared, since I applied late, but it's not like I can start buying equipment before I know I'm definitely accepted.

I was thinking of participating in NaNoWriMo this year, but then I saw the release date for Zelda: Skyward Sword. Which I plan to get on the very first day and then play like a maniac, even though I continue to hate Wiimotes and all they stand for. I wonder if there's any stores in my city that are planning to do a midnight release of it...

Oh yeah, and I did set up a Tumblr, but haven't actually posted anything there yet. So, uh. Probably not worth mentioning!

I'm thinking about joining Tumblr, even though I have only the vaguest notion of how it works. And even if all I'd do is post writing snippets and look at pictures of Endrance and/or Haseo. It's always good to find new ways of procrastinating!

Another site I'm enjoying is Rainymood. It's such a simple idea, but I've always wondered if there was something like that out there. Helps calm me down when I'm feeling stressed.

Those things aside, this is really a post about anime. Mainly about No. 6, which first caught my eye because the main characters are a white-haired red-eyed guy with weird red marks on his face, and a taller guy with long blue hair who occasionally crossdresses to play Shakespeare, but that's not relevant, just interesting. And they're about as gay as it's possible to be without anyone actually saying so. No. 6 isn't BL, it's a sci-fi show/manga about conspiracies in a supposedly perfect futuristic city, and that plot is enough to sell it. But it also happens to have main characters who kiss and dance in sunsets together. Yeah.
...Their personalities aren't anything like Haseo and Endrance, though. White-haired guy is all naive and polite from a privileged upbringing in the city, and blue-haired guy is a badass tsundere that's about 90% tsun. But they're awesome, even if I'm trying not to get too invested in them together, since it doesn't seem like a series that'll end happily for everyone.

I've also started watching Tiger & Bunny, because it's loud and colourful and very entertaining, and I can see why it's gotten popular. Only three episodes into that so far.

So hey, remember when I used to use this LJ for fandom stuff people actually gave a crap about? XD;; Here's a preview snippet from the final chapter of Veritas. It's a mostly-pointless bit of Ryou/Kaoru fluff, but IT'S PROOF I'M STILL WORKING ON IT.
Keep believing in me, guys ;~;

And I have kept track of my flist and stuff, even if I've been more lurkery than comment-y (that's not unusual anyway). It's just harder to find the energy to post. But hey I'm doing it now.

First of all, I have a new kitten! She is tiny and black and insane and I love her. Normally I'd go for an older rescued animal, but my aunt's cat had kittens by accident (SPAY YOUR PETS, PEOPLE) and it was pretty much expected that I take one in. So I did. Currently she's sleeping on my lap.

Second of all, I...have been really lazy with gaming. I still haven't finished Persona 4, and I got Pokemon White but haven't finished that either XD;;
I've been reading a lot of awesome books though (and intend to make a more in-depth post about those at some point in time). I'm especially on the lookout for books starring dragons, if anyone has recommendations? No Temeraire or Pern, please. The former isn't my cup of tea, and the latter...well. I've heard about the tent peg thing.

Thirdly, I'm afraid I haven't been writing. It's almost a year since I last updated Veritas, and I do want to finish it - I do miss writing and posting things - but I've started to get the feeling it's cursed. Whenever I sat down to work on it, bad things seemed to follow, and since I've set it aside nothing bad has happened. So make of that what you will.
Aside from my private little corner of RP plotting, I feel like the .hack//G.U. fandom keeps growing more distant, and that's sad. I guess these things happen as a fandom ages, though.

Fourthly, finding sunscreen that hasn't been tested on animals is more difficult than it should be.

Sigh. My computer has decided to crash and die in a flurry of blue screens and fatal errors, so now I'm on a laptop that has none of my files and feeling very cut off. I have most of my super-vital stuff backed up, of course, but there was a lot of stuff that falls into the category of 'not super vital but I'd still be unhappy to lose it'. Which is seeming like a strong possibility at the moment, since all my efforts to fix things have only gotten me from 'blue screen of death' to 'desktop where everything is frozen and task manager refuses to run any new programs' ;~;

Oh well. Guess I've got more spare time to play Persona 4, now. Spoilers up to completing Rise's fabulous dungeonCollapse )

The other day I was in a bookstore, and strayed from the familiarly nerdy realms of SF/Fantasy to the uncharted ultra-nerdy waters of the manga section. And, uh. They had copies of .hack//G.U.+

This may not seem strange, because .hack//G.U.+ is indeed a manga and thus has every right to be sitting in the manga section of a large bookstore. Except the hack//G.U. games, the accepted canon that everything else is a spinoff from, never got a European release.

I feel that I have somehow been taunted :|

Alas, they did not have the G.U. novels in stock. Which is probably a good thing, as I would've been tempted to buy them just for the hilarious trainwreck factor.

...Speaking of .hack, as I far too often do, I'd really hoped I could complete Veritas by the end of the year. Preferably before Christmas, but I'm obviously not going to manage it now. I'm disappointed in myself for that. Anyway...

ONCE I START SOMETHING I WILL FINISH ITCollapse )
